The body of an Israeli soldier who had been forced to appear in a Hamas propaganda video — before the footage cut to her corpse — was found near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Israel said Friday.
Cpl. Noa Marciano, 19, was “abducted and murdered” by Hamas and her body was recovered by Israel’s 7th Armored Brigade’s 603rd Battalion, which was operating “adjacent” to the hospital, according to the Times of Israel.
“The IDF sends its heartfelt condolences to the family and will continue to support them,” the Israel Defense Forces wrote on X.
Marciano had appeared in a Hamas video Monday in which she said she was being held in Gaza and pleaded for the Israeli military to stop bombarding the area.
The video then cut to show her lifeless body. Israel confirmed her death Tuesday.
In other developments Friday:
- Defiant Israeli officials said they will agree to a “very limited and short” cease-fire if Hamas releases a “massive” number of hostages.
- The Israel Defense Forces “confiscated multiple weapons found at [a] school” and “eliminated” Hamas terrorists hiding there, Israeli authorities said.
- Israel launched Arrow 3 missiles to intercept a rocket fired into the Red Sea region — the first wartime combat in space.
- Hostages’ families continued their march from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to demand the government increase efforts to bring their relatives home.
- The IDF called Osama bin Laden a “genocidal terrorist” after pro-Palestinian supporters took to TikTok this week to claim he attacked America on 9/11 over Israel.
- Bernie Sanders calls for Israel to “stop the bombing now” or Congress won’t pass a supplemental spending bill.
Israeli officials condemned Hamas for its consistent usage of “psychological terror,” including through the dissemination of videos and photos of hostages.
Marciano’s mother tearfully honored her daughter at her funeral Friday.
“Our dear Noni, in a normal sane world, we shouldn’t be standing here now, but we aren’t in a normal world,” the teen’s shattered mom said in a video posted to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s Facebook. “At 19, you were taken from us prematurely. The mind struggles to let go, and the heart refuses to accept.”
The heartbroken mother said the family “exhausted every means” to try to get Marciano home.
She also apologized to her daughter for “failing” her because she was unable to get her home safely.
Marciano was a part of the Combat Intelligence Collections Corps 414th unit and was serving at Nahal Oz IDF base when she was captured during the Palestinian terror group Hamas’ heinous raid Oct. 7, according to the Times of Israel.
Her body was found as the IDF continued to search for Hamas infrastructure in the hospital complex.
Marciano was the second body of a hostage found. The body of Judith Weiss, who was also taken Oct. 7, was discovered near al-Shifa Hospital on Wednesday.
